Romanian Women Successful, but Balance Set to Turn in Favour of Men?
Successful at the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour Czech Open in Olomouc, when winning the Women’s Singles event; Elizabeta Samara continued the rich tradition of success for Romania on the international scene.
Throughout history, Romania has been a major force in Europe and farther afield with arguably, in recent years, the success of the women exceeding the men.
Undoubtedly the country’s current teenage girls are set to follow in the footsteps of Elizabeta Samara, the name of Adina Diaconu who competed in the recent Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games springs immediately to mind but are there two young men, who may redress the balance in favour of the male of the species?
WEERASINGHE Helshan ENG l-a invins pe MANOLE Alexandru ROU in semifinale cu 4-1 (11-7,11-8,2-11,11-3,11-7) apoi a pierdut finala cu 2-4(11-8,11-2,7-11,8-11,10-12,9-11) la LEVENKO Andreas AUT.
La fete, vesti bune: dintre cele 3 semifinaliste romance, ZAHARIA Alina a ajuns si s-a impus in finala cu 4-3, castigand titlul impotriva lui SREBRNJAK Dorina CRO (11-6, 4-11, 3-11, 11-6, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9). Felicitari sportivilor romani, in special fetelor, care s-au comportat admirabil !
Succes maxim echipelor noastre!
Currently listed at no.157 on the Under 18 Girls? World Rankings and the eighth seed in Varazdin, Romania?s Alina Zaharia emerged as the surprise winner of the Junior Girls? Singles title at the 2014 Croatian Junior and Cadet Open on the evening of Thursday 18th September.
Furthermore, not only did she secure the Junior Girls? Singles crown; earlier in the day in partnership with colleague, Arina Singeorzan, she claimed the top prize in the Junior Girls? Doubles competition.
The success in the latter being less of a surprise; the Romanian duo occupied the second seeded position in the draw.....
La junioare s-a impus echipa Rusiei, invingatoare in finala in fata Ungariei, scor 3-0
