Four clubs. Two days. One trophy. And this year’s HYLO® ETTU Champions League Men Final 4 in Saarbrücken has everything needed for a spectacular showdown.

Olympic champions, World Championship medallists, Europe’s biggest stars and some of the most ambitious clubs on the continent will take over Saarlandhalle this weekend, with thousands of fans expected to create another unforgettable atmosphere.

Defending champions 1. FC Saarbrücken TT return to their home arena chasing a third consecutive Final 4 title and a fourth straight Champions League crown overall. But standing in their way are three clubs arriving with their own momentum, belief and major ambitions: Borussia Düsseldorf, Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier TT and KS Orlen Bogoria Grodzisk Mazowiecki.

The spotlight naturally falls first on Saarbrücken. The German club once again arrives with a line-up that almost looks unreal on paper.

At the centre stands FAN Zhendong, reigning Olympic champion, current World No. 1 and owner of nine World Championship gold medals. Alongside him are Truls Moregard, Europe’s current No. 1 and Olympic silver medallist, Darko JORGIC Europe’s No. 5, and Patrick Franziska NO.8, one of Germany’s key players for years on both club and international level.

“Of course we want to win the fourth title in a row,” said FRANZISKA. “We have a really, really strong team with so many good players.”

Still, Saarbrücken know there will be no easy matches at this level, especially against a dangerous KS Orlen Bogoria Grodzisk Mazowiecki side that continues to grow year after year.

Bogoria reached the Final 4 for the second consecutive season after another impressive European campaign. One of the key figures remains veteran Panagiotis GIONIS, whose experience perfectly complements the rise of young Polish star Milosz REDZIMSKI.

“We know it will be extremely difficult against Saarbrücken,” admitted GIONIS. “They are an unbelievable team, especially at home, with fantastic fans and world-class players. But we will try our best.”

REDZIMSKI also believes last season’s Final 4 experience could help the team remain calmer in decisive moments.

“Playing in the Final 4 is always something special, and having players in the team who already experienced these matches helps us stay calm and focused,” he explained.

The second semi-final brings together two clubs with enormous quality and completely different stories.

On one side stands Borussia Düsseldorf, the most successful club in European table tennis history. Six Champions League titles, six Cup of European Champions trophies and four ETTU Cup victories tell only part of the story of a club that has dominated European table tennis for decades.

Now entering a new chapter after the retirement of legendary Timo BOLL, Düsseldorf still arrives with huge ambitions. European champion Qiu DANG Europe’s No. 6, leads the team alongside Swede Anton KALLBERG currently occupying position No. 10, and American star Kanak JHA.

“We really need to come up with something special for our semi-final against Montpellier and play our best table tennis,” admitted coach Danny HEISTER.

Because waiting on the other side is probably the hottest team in European table tennis right now Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier TT.

The French champions started their campaign all the way back in Stage 1 and kept building confidence with every round.

At the heart of the project are brothers Felix LEBRUN and Alexis LEBRUN Europe’s No. 2 and 3, now firmly established among the world’s elite after another outstanding performance with France at the ITTF World Team Championships Finals in London.

Felix arrives in Saarbrücken after one of the best tournaments of his career, including a sensational victory over World No. 1 LIN Shidong.

“It was a great tournament for us that unfortunately ended in the semi-finals,” Felix said after France’s bronze-medal run. “I’m proud of our team and the way we played.”

Alexis also admits the confidence inside the French squad is growing fast.

“We played a great tournament in London and finished with a beautiful medal, so I come to the Final 4 with a lot of confidence,” said Alexis.

And yes, last season’s defeat to Düsseldorf is still somewhere in the back of their minds.

“For sure we want to take our revenge,” Alexis smiled. “But the real goal is to reach the final.”

With packed stands expected, emotions already building and four clubs believing they can lift the trophy, Saarbrücken is once again ready to become the centre of European club table tennis.

ASD Quattro Mori Cagliari moved one step closer to the ETTU Europe Cup Women title after edging Linz AG Froschberg 3-1 in a tense and emotional opening leg of the final in Cagliari. Despite the overall scoreline, the encounter was far closer than it appears, with three of the four matches decided in dramatic five-game battles.

The Italian side opened strongly as Elizabet ABRAAMIAN overcame Suthasini SAWETTABUT in a thrilling five-game duel to give Cagliari an early lead. Linz AG Froschberg responded through Britt EERLAND, who defeated Hengyu MA to level the tie at 1-1.

Tania PLAIAN then delivered one of the key moments of the evening. Facing Ivana MALOBABIC, a player she had never previously beaten, PLAIAN fought back from two games down to secure a crucial victory for the hosts. ABRAAMIAN then sealed the overall success in another dramatic encounter, defeating Britt EERLAND in five games after recovering from a difficult start.

“We never stopped believing,” said Tania PLAIAN. “Again the team spirit helped us and also the crowd was so loud today. We knew it would be a very tough fight because all three victories came 3-2. The first match gave us confidence that we could win this match.”

PLAIAN also praised her teammate Elizabet ABRAAMIAN’s decisive contribution.

“Elizabet was really strong mentally against Britt. She showed very good nerves and played very smart in the important moments. She is an unbelievable player and it is really nice to see how she plays.”

Reflecting on her own victory against MALOBABIC, PLAIAN admitted the match carried extra significance.

“I never won against Ivana before and I always felt uncomfortable against her. Today was different because physically I felt much better and for the first time I didn’t feel pain during the match. I stayed patient, played good tactics and in the important moments I had the courage to do what was necessary to win.”

ABRAAMIAN stressed that the tie is still far from decided despite Cagliari’s advantage after the opening leg.

“I’m very happy with this win, but we have to remember that this is just the first leg and we have to focus on the next match,” ABRAAMIAN said. “I hope we will do our best in Linz.”

The Armenian star also highlighted the atmosphere in Cagliari and the emotional support she felt throughout the evening.

“It was an unbelievable atmosphere. I felt that all I had to do was give everything I had and play with my heart. I tried to focus on every ball, ball after ball. I also felt the support from the team and all the people who came to support us. I felt that I was playing for Quattro Mori, for Cagliari, for all the fans and for the team.”

ABRAAMIAN additionally praised Linz AG Froschberg for the level of the final.

“I would also like to thank the opponent team for this unbelievable match, for the fight and the crazy rallies. This is the table tennis that we all love.”

ASD Quattro Mori Cagliari now travel to Austria carrying a valuable advantage into the return leg, while Linz AG Froschberg will look to overturn the deficit on home soil in the decisive match for the trophy.

Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier will face reigning champions 1. FC Saarbrücken TT in the final of the HYLO ETTU Champions League Final 4 Men after a fantastic performance in the semi-final against Europe’s most decorated club, Borussia Düsseldorf. The French side produced one of the biggest victories in club history to eliminate the German giants, winners of six Champions League titles and six Cup of European Champions trophies, and secure their first ever place in the Final 4 title match — one year after Düsseldorf ended their European campaign in the quarterfinals.

Europe’s no. 3 Alexis LEBRUN opened the second semi-final in impressive fashion, leading Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier to an early advantage against Germany’s club.

Facing Europe’s no. 6 Dang QIU, the French star immediately found his rhythm and controlled the opening game with aggressive play and high intensity. The second game brought more suspense, but LEBRUN successfully adapted to the changes in rhythm and once again managed to take control at the key moments.

QIU increased the pressure in the third game and moved ahead 5-1, but Alexis quickly erased the deficit to level at 6-6. The two players stayed close until 8-8 before LEBRUN produced a furious finish to close the match in straight games.

“I played a great match. I am satisfied with the start and I managed to put a lot of balls on the table,” said LEBRUN afterwards. “I really enjoyed the moment here.”

Europe’s no. 2 Felix LEBRUN fully justified his status in the second match of the semi-final, overcoming Europe’s no. 10 Anton KALLBERG to extend Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier’s lead.

Despite the straight-games result, the encounter was far tighter than the scoreline suggests. KALLBERG managed to apply strong pressure, especially in the second game where the Swedish player moved ahead 6-3 and later held game points at 12-11 and 13-12. However, Felix LEBRUN once again demonstrated his composure in the crucial moments, eventually taking the game 16-14 to move within one game of victory.

The third game confirmed the French star’s dominance as he maintained control to close the match and give the French side a commanding 2-0 advantage.

“Against Anton it is always close,” said Felix LEBRUN afterwards. “Today it was 3-0, but it could easily have been 2-0 for him at the beginning. I was fighting for every single point. The crucial moment was at the end of the second game, when I took the timeout to refocus and win that game.”

World no. 27 Kanak JHA kept Borussia Düsseldorf alive, reducing the deficit against Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier after overcoming world no. 37 Manav THAKAR.

The match largely followed the rankings in the opening two games, with JHA controlling the crucial moments and building a solid advantage. However, the third game brought fresh drama as THAKAR refused to surrender. The Indian player raced into a 10-4 lead before JHA mounted a late comeback to 10-8, but THAKAR stayed composed to extend the match into a fourth game.

JHA eventually recovered his rhythm and held his nerve in another close finish to secure Borussia Düsseldorf’s first point of the evening.

“It was shaky, but I managed pretty well in the first two games,” said JHA afterwards. “I played quite decisively. Manav is a very tricky player to face and during the last year and a half he has been playing really well. I am very happy that I managed to stay calm and win this match.”

Felix LEBRUN concluded the semi-final in style, defeating Dang QIU in a fantastic duel to send Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier into the final of the HYLO ETTU Champions League Men Final 4.

After already giving the French side a strong advantage with his victory over Anton KALLBERG, Europe’s no. 2 once again stepped up under pressure. The opening game turned into a spectacular battle, with Felix eventually edging it 16-14 before maintaining control through the remainder of the match despite QIU’s resistance in the second game.

With the victory, Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier secured a 3-1 overall success over Borussia Düsseldorf and booked their place in Sunday’s final.

“We are very proud of the players because they gave everything, exactly as I asked from the beginning,” said the Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier coachVincent AVRIL after reaching the final. “I am proud of the whole team, including the guys on the bench. It is not easy to stay on the bench in such an atmosphere during a match like this, so I want to thank everyone for their attitude and commitment.”

“Congratulations to Alexis and Felix for bringing the three points. It was a very close match and they played amazingly well. After the World Championships, it is very difficult to come back immediately and play another stressful match like this one.”

Looking ahead to the final, the French side remains ambitious despite the challenge waiting against reigning champions 1. FC Saarbrücken TT.

“We will keep the same spirit as always. For more than a year we have been playing together with a fantastic team spirit and we know each other very well. Now we are ready to fight against maybe the best team in the world. It will be very exciting. We need to recover and then play our best table tennis to try to win this wonderful competition. Alexis LEBRUN: “I had a great start in the first game and played really well. After that, I felt he adapted a little, so the match became tougher and tougher. I managed to win 3-0, which was very important because if the match had continued longer, it could have become even more difficult. In the third game, the Swede appeared to be firmly in control with an 8-4 lead, but Felix LEBRUN fought back to level at 9-9 before MOREGARD once again held his nerve at the decisive stage.

For the fourth consecutive season, 1. FC Saarbrücken TT lifted the trophy in the HYLO ETTU Champions League Men and, for the third time, did so on home soil at the Final 4. In front of 3,459 spectators inside a packed Saarlandhalle, the German club defeated Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier 3-2 in a thrilling final that was decided only in the fifth and decisive match.

After another dramatic European triumph, players and officials of Saarbrücken reflected on an emotional evening that further cemented the club’s place in European table tennis history.

For reigning Olympic champion FAN Zhendong, it was a first experience of the Final 4 atmosphere in Saarbrücken and another memorable milestone in his already extraordinary career.

“This was my first time playing the Final 4, so it is a very special moment for me,” said FAN. “The LEBRUN brothers put me under a lot of pressure today and I didn’t play my best table tennis, but it didn’t matter because our team was very strong. Truls and Darko played amazingly and helped us win the title. I also learned a lot this season from my teammates and from being part of this club.”

The hero of the final proved to be Truls MOREGARD, who delivered two crucial victories, including the deciding point against Alexis LEBRUN in the final match of the evening.

“I’m very happy that I could help the team,” MOREGARD said after receiving the Man of the Match award. “Montpellier is a fantastic team and the LEBRUN brothers are incredibly difficult to beat. To win this event in such an atmosphere is an amazing feeling. And of course, thanks to FAN Zhendong for bringing so many fans here. The arena was full and the atmosphere was unbelievable.”

For Darko JORGIC, the title carried even greater emotional weight, as it marked his final Champions League appearance for Saarbrücken after eight memorable years with the club.

“It was really emotional for me. Like you said, it was my last time playing the Champions League for Saarbrücken, and it is a special moment I will never forget,” JORGIC said. “These eight years were amazing. Montpellier fought brilliantly and in the end everything was decided by very small details. We showed a really high level and I’m very happy that I could also bring an important point for the team.”

General Manager of Saarbrücken and Head of Organisation, Nicolas BARROIS, praised both the sporting level and the atmosphere of the event, describing it as one of the strongest editions in recent history.

“We put so much effort into this competition over the past months together with ETTU, sponsors, partners and everyone involved. I think we brought the competition to another level this year,” said BARROIS. “The atmosphere during these two days was something truly special. We had Olympic champions, world top 10 players and so many stars together in one event. This is probably the most prestigious club competition we have had in the last 15 or 20 years.”

BARROIS also admitted that the level of the HYLO ETTU Champions League Men continues to rise every season and that nothing can ever be taken for granted, even for the defending champions.

“Of course we are already looking forward to next season and another Final 4 in Saarbrücken,” he added. “But this competition has proven once again how difficult it is. With clubs of such quality and so many world-class players, nothing is guaranteed. Every year you have to fight again to earn your place.”

BARROIS also highlighted the strong team spirit within Saarbrücken’s star-studded squad.

“When FAN joined the club, we knew that some top players would sometimes have to sit on the bench. But Darko JORGIC and Patrick FRANZISKA accepted that for the good of the team, and that says a lot about the atmosphere we have here,” he added.

MOREGARD also pointed to one of the unique aspects of this year’s Final 4 – the strong support coming from Chinese fans inside Saarlandhalle.

“There was one big difference this time,” MOREGARD smiled. “Usually the Chinese fans cheer for my opponents, but today they were cheering for me as well. When you walk out and hear them shouting your name, it really gives you energy. It was a very special feeling.”

Despite the disappointment of narrowly missing the title, Alliance Nîmes/Montpellier left Saarbrücken with plenty of pride after an outstanding HYLO ETTU Champions League Men campaign that ended with a place in the final during the club’s first-ever Final 4 appearance.

Head coach Vincent AVRIL praised his team’s journey throughout the season, despite the painful 3-2 defeat against 1. FC Saarbrücken TT in the final.

“It was an amazing tournament for my team, with so many emotions,” AVRIL said. “Of course we are very sad to lose the final, especially after such a close match, but I am extremely proud of my players and proud to represent this club. Since the first stage, we have had a wonderful Champions League campaign.”

AVRIL also underlined the progress his young team has made throughout the season.

“We are still a young team without a lot of experience, but month after month we are improving and becoming more complete as a team. We played against one of the strongest clubs in the world, so of course it was difficult, but this experience gives us confidence that we can come back even stronger next season.”

For Alexis LEBRUN, the evening brought mixed emotions after his impressive opening victory over reigning Olympic champion FAN Zhendong.

“It is always a pleasure to play against FAN Zhendong because he is such an unbelievable player,” Alexis said. “I am very happy with my performance, but in the end it is difficult because it was not enough to help the team win the title. Losing 3-2 in the final is never easy.”

His younger brother Felix LEBRUN stressed that the team embraced the occasion despite arriving in Saarbrücken as outsiders.

“This was the first Final 4 for our club and we really enjoyed the experience,” Felix said. “Saarbrücken were the favourites, but we gave everything and came very close. We hope we can come back here again one day and maybe go one step further.”

Both LEBRUN brothers also highlighted the strong bond within the team, with several players having grown together through the French system and the clubs from Montpellier and Nîmes.

“We are proud to represent our club colours and to bring the club to the biggest matches possible,” Alexis added. “That is something very special for all of us.”

In the middle of their ETTU Europe Cup Women final campaign, Linz AG Froschberg added another major success to an already impressive season. Just days after the opening leg against ASD Quattro Mori Cagliari in Sardinia, the Austrian side secured its 25th national championship title, using the Bundesliga final as the perfect boost ahead of Friday’s decisive second leg of the Europe Cup final in Linz.

A dominant 4-0 victory over Gartenstadt Tulln secured the 25th national championship title for the women of Linz AG Froschberg. The breakthrough came right at the start of the final when Ivana MALOBABIC handed previously unbeaten Taiwanese player CHEN Chia-I a convincing 3-0 defeat. Now the focus quickly turns to Friday’s ETTU Europe Cup Women final second leg in Linz, where the Austrian side will try to overturn the 1-3 defeat suffered against ASD Quattro Mori Cagliari in Sardinia.

“Our goal is the treble,” said club chairman Günther RENNER.

After already lifting the Austria Cup earlier this season, Linz AG completed the domestic double in impressive style against the injury-hit side from Gartenstadt Tulln. Coach Josef PLACHY made a decisive tactical move by placing Ivana MALOBABIC in the second position of the lineup, and the Croatian defender delivered immediately. With a patient and intelligent performance, she broke the rhythm of 19-year-old CHEN Chia-I and gave Linz AG the perfect start.

“PLACHY informed me in the morning that I would start, and I studied CHEN Chia-I carefully. It wasn’t easy, but I found the right solution,” said a smiling MALOBABIC after the match.

Suthasini SAWETTABUT followed with another straight-games victory against Ana CHERVIK, before Britt EERLAND extended the lead to 3-0 with a comfortable win over Nikoleta PUCHOVANOVA. EERLAND and SAWETTABUT then completed the flawless evening in doubles, defeating PUCHOVANOVA and CHERVIK without dropping a game.

“With the third consecutive 4-0 result in the final, we completed the hat-trick. After LASK, it was Linz’s second double within 24 hours. Now we are fully focused on the season highlight – the Europe Cup final second leg on Friday evening in Linz,” said Robert RENNER.

Despite the setback in the opening leg in Sardinia, Linz AG Froschberg still believes the treble is within reach. To keep their hopes alive and force the Golden Match, the Austrian club will need at least a 3-1 victory on home soil on Friday evening.

Among the emerging forces in European women’s club table tennis, UCAM Cartagena TM arrive at the ETTU Champions League Women Final 4 carrying both momentum and belief after one of the most dramatic campaigns of the season.

The Spanish club has built one of the strongest legacies in domestic table tennis, collecting more than 20 national league titles and several Europe Cup trophies, including becoming the first Spanish club ever to win a European title back in 2009. Further continental triumphs followed in 2010, 2019 and 2022.

Now, Cartagena stand on the verge of another milestone.

For the first time in club history, they have reached the Champions League Women Final 4, confirming that the club is no longer only a dominant force in Spain, but also a serious contender on the European stage.

Their path to Tarnobrzeg was anything but easy. Cartagena opened the campaign with victories over TTC Novi Sad and Etival ASRTT before surviving one of the most dramatic quarter-finals of the season against Saint-Quentin TT. After facing an almost impossible situation, the Spanish side produced a remarkable comeback and eventually secured qualification through the decisive golden match.

One of the key figures throughout the campaign has been Maria XIAO, whose experience and leadership have helped guide the team through difficult moments.

“To be among the best clubs in Europe is always a very positive achievement for both the club and for me personally,” said XIAO. “It means we are doing a good job as a club and, as players, we are giving our best to improve and help the team.”

Even now, the experienced Spanish international still struggles to fully explain how Cartagena managed to survive the quarter-final drama.

“The quarter-final match was really insane. It was almost an impossible task for us, but in the end we managed to qualify and honestly I still don’t know how,” XIAO admitted with a smile. “I think our team spirit helped us a lot.”

That fighting mentality has become one of Cartagena’s trademarks throughout the season and perhaps their biggest weapon heading into the Final 4.

“Yes, definitely. I think we have a very good team spirit and fighting spirit. That will give us something extra in difficult moments,” she explained.

Cartagena’s squad combines experience, stability and attacking quality. Alongside XIAO, players such as Tin-Tin HO, Daniela ORTEGA, Fei QI, Silvija ERDELJI and LI Yao bring international experience, while younger talents continue to add energy and depth to the team.

Now another major challenge awaits in the semi-final, where Cartagena will face Metz TT for a place in the Champions League final.

“I’m expecting a very interesting and good match from both teams,” said XIAO. “For me, Metz are the favourites, but we will try our best to surprise them.”

The Spanish international knows exactly how difficult the French side will be tactically.

“They are a very strong and complete team,” she explained. “Honestly, we have nothing to lose. I’ve already played against all of them over the past years and lost against two of them.”

For XIAO, reaching the Final 4 already feels special, especially with the introduction of the new format.

“It feels special to be among the best four clubs in Europe. Whenever you play against the best teams and fight for a title, the emotions and pressure are always high,” she said. “I think this format makes it even more exciting for both players and fans, and it’s a great opportunity to be part of something new from the beginning.”

And while Cartagena already made history by reaching the Final 4 for the first time, the ambition inside the club continues to grow.

“It would be my first Champions League title and honestly that’s something I never imagined achieving because there are so many strong teams in this competition,” admitted XIAO. “But it’s definitely one of my goals with UCAM.”

Reaching the final itself would already mean a lot personally for the experienced Spanish player.

“It would give me a lot of confidence and also show me that I’m doing a good job and should continue working the way I am now,” she said. “It would give me even more motivation.”

For Zbigniew NĘCEK, the upcoming ETTU Champions League Women Final 4 is far more than another major European event. It is the result of decades of work, development and belief inside one of Europe’s most successful women’s table tennis clubs.

Tarnobrzeg will host the first-ever Women’s Champions League Final 4 on 23-24 May, welcoming Europe’s four best teams in what is expected to become a new flagship event for women’s club table tennis.

“I have been working in Tarnobrzeg for 39 seasons,” said NĘCEK. “Our club has come a very long way in the ETTU Cup and Champions League competitions, so hosting this historic first Final Four tournament feels like the crowning achievement of many years of work.”

Over those decades, KTS Enea Siarkopol Tarnobrzeg have grown into a true European powerhouse. Alongside 32 Polish championship titles, the club has lifted the Champions League trophy four times and consistently remained among Europe’s elite.

For NĘCEK, the decision by the European Table Tennis Union to award Tarnobrzeg the organisation of the Final 4 is recognition not only of sporting success, but also of the club’s long-standing professionalism.

“We always tried to organise ETTU Cup and Champions League matches in Tarnobrzeg professionally and in a friendly sporting atmosphere,” he explained. “I believe the positive decision by the ETTU leadership was closely connected to the reputation our club has built.”

Preparing an event of this scale has brought enormous organisational demands.

“I expected organising the Final Four would be a huge challenge, and reality has confirmed that completely,” admitted Nęcek. “We will do everything possible to ensure all participants leave Tarnobrzeg satisfied with their stay. We will be fully available for our guests, although we also hope for understanding because this is the first time we are organising an event of this size.”

The project would not have been possible without strong long-term support from sponsors and public institutions, especially strategic partner Enea.

“Without the positive response of our sponsors and partners, we would never have been able to meet the high costs of the event,” said NĘCEK. “The Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Enea S.A., the City of Tarnobrzeg, Totalizator Sportowy, the Podkarpackie Region and ZCH Siarkopol are our trusted long-term friends.”

At the same time, Tarnobrzeg remain one of the strongest sporting contenders for the title itself.

Combining organisational duties with elite sporting preparation has created an extraordinary challenge for the coaching staff.

“HAN Ying and FU Yu competed at the World Team Championships, while YANG Xiaoxin has been playing at the WTT Feeder in Istanbul,” explained NĘCEK. “Fortunately, we have worked together for many years and developed a system that allows us to prepare optimally for the most important matches.”

The squad itself perfectly reflects the club’s philosophy – combining world-class experience with carefully selected new talent.

“To have a chance of succeeding in the Champions League, the team must include world-class players,” said NĘCEK. “At the same time, we constantly try to bring in new high-level players like Satsuki ODO from Japan or NG Wing Lam from Hong Kong.”

Still, for the coach, the most important element behind Tarnobrzeg’s success has never changed.

“The key to our long-term success has always been the excellent atmosphere inside the team,” he said. “Because of that atmosphere, we won matches that many people believed we had no right to win, especially in 2019 when we sensationally won the Champions League for the first time.”

NĘCEK also hopes the new Final 4 format can become an important step forward for women’s club table tennis in Europe.

“We want to be a partner in this new concept, not only an observer or critic. This is our common goal together with the ETTU.”

And while he understands the strength of the opposition arriving in Tarnobrzeg, the ambition remains clear.

“We must always fight for the maximum result,” said Nęcek. “But we also know all four teams have enormous potential. May the better team win. And of course, if my team wins, I will be a very happy coach.”

Metz TT will arrive in Tarnobrzeg with confidence, experience and perhaps more importantly, the feeling that this group may finally be ready to take the last step in the ETTU Champions League Women.

The French club will face UCAM Cartagena TM in the semi-final of the inaugural Women’s Final 4 on 23-24 May, carrying both momentum from this season and memories from the last two years, when they came painfully close to the trophy.

Over the past decade Metz have quietly established themselves among Europe’s strongest clubs. Domestic titles in France, the Europe Cup crown in 2018 and regular deep runs in European competitions have built the reputation of a team that consistently belongs at the highest level.

Still, one thing is missing – the Champions League title.

In 2023 they reached the final before losing to KTS Enea Siarkopol Tarnobrzeg, while last season ended with another final defeat, this time against ttc berlin eastside. Those disappointments now serve as extra motivation.

French club once again showed their character throughout this season’s campaign. They had to work hard from the very beginning, coming from behind to defeat PGE Fibrain AZS Politechnika Rzeszów in their opening tie, but from that moment the French side only grew stronger.

Victories over ASD Quattro Mori Cagliari confirmed their consistency, while the quarter-final against domestic rivals Saint-Denis TT 93 once again highlighted the resilience within the team. After edging a tense first leg 3-2, Metz produced a far more convincing performance in the return match to secure their place among Europe’s top four clubs.

One of the major strengths of Metz lies in the balance of the squad. French international Charlotte LUTZ brings energy and fearlessness, Egyptian talent Hana GODA adds explosive attacking power, while experienced players such as Adina DIACONU and Sarah De NUTTE provide calmness in the biggest moments. Depth also comes from Mariia TAILAKOVA and Charlene LESTIENNE.

LUTZ heads to Tarnobrzeg directly after helping France reach the quarter-finals at the ITTF World Team Championships Finals in London. Even with little time to recover, she believes the experience from London can only help the team.

“I think those two events are quite different, because at the World Championships I played against my teammate, and now we will be together trying to win this title,” said Lutz, speaking about DIACONU after Romania’s victory over France in London. “We actually had a very good Champions League season. We managed difficult matches really well and I’m proud of the whole team for that. We want to keep the same fighting spirit and the same goal in mind for the Final 4.”

For the young French player, this will also be a completely new experience.

“It’s my first Champions League Final 4 and also my first time playing against Cartagena. They are a very strong team and it will definitely be a difficult match. We know they will fight for every point, just like us.”

There is also a clear feeling inside the team that the painful defeats of the past two seasons could now become valuable experience.

“We lost to Berlin in the final last year and Metz also lost the final in 2023 before I joined the team. Maybe now is the right moment to change things.”

And perhaps the clearest message came when she spoke about the team’s ambition.

“The goal is always to win the trophy. We feel ready for it.”

DIACONU arrives in Tarnobrzeg after helping Romania win the bronze medal at the ITTF World Team Championships Finals in London, another historic achievement for Romanian table tennis.

“It was an amazing run for us. We are very happy that we wrote history again for Romania at this special edition of the World Championships,” said DIACONU.

However, the Romanian star admits there is little time to celebrate before another crucial part of the season begins.

“Of course, after big tournaments it’s not easy to switch immediately to another very important event. I took one or two days off and then was back at the table. Before the Final 4 in the Champions League, we had the Pro A final so I had to switch very fast .”

For DIACONU, the semi-final against Cartagena will carry both sporting pressure and emotional significance.

“The semi-final against UCAM will be a very difficult match. They are a strong team, with almost the same level of players. They showed during this season that they are a very strong team,” she explained.“There is also a very special person for me there – Maria XIAO. She is one of my best friends, my doubles partner and someone with whom I share many memories and emotions.”

DIACONU also believes the team has every reason to dream big after another strong season together.

“I know reaching the semi-final is already a very good result for the team. Of course, we are also in the Champions League Final, but we see that as a bonus. I think our main goal this season was to finish among the top four teams once again, so now we just want to enjoy this semi-final – and why not try to go all the way to the final as well?”

The Romanian highlighted the atmosphere inside the squad as one of the biggest reasons behind Metz’s success this year.

“This year we really have a great team and an amazing atmosphere. Since Hana joined us this season, everything has clicked so naturally. She is not only an incredible player, but also a wonderful person who brings so much positive energy and fun to the group. In recent months she has been playing at an outstanding level, and we can all learn a lot from her and share great moments together. I’m truly happy to be part of this team.”

Metz now arrive at the Final 4 carrying confidence, experience and the feeling that perhaps this time the story could end differently.

“I believe Hana can continue her excellent form in the upcoming matches in Pro A, the French Championships and of course the Champions League,” added DIACONU. “We still have the chance to play in two finals, and honestly, I would love for us to win at least one of those trophies.”

As hosts and top seeds of the first-ever ETTU Champions League Women Final 4, KTS Enea Siarkopol Tarnobrzeg arrive in a familiar position – among the favourites for the title.

The Polish club will face reigning champions ttc berlin eastside in the semi-final on 23 May at 19:00, and earlier the same day, UCAM Cartagena TM will meet Metz TT in the opening semi-final at 15:00.

The Polish powerhouse has dominated women’s table tennis in Poland for decades, winning 32 national titles since the 1990/91 season, while also building one of the strongest European legacies in the modern era. Four Champions League crowns in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024 have established Tarnobrzeg as one of the benchmark clubs in Europe.

This season, the team once again progressed through the competition with impressive control. Tarnobrzeg opened their campaign with commanding victories over MIRO Ganxets Costa Durada and Saint-Quentin TT before confirming their authority in the quarter-finals against Etival ASRTT with a 3-1 away victory followed by a dominant 3-0 success at home.

At the heart of the squad stands Ying HAN, currently ranked No. 5 in Europe and fresh from winning the bronze medal with Germany at the ITTF World Team Championships Finals in London.

“ I’m very happy that we were able to win the bronze medal together with the team at the centenary edition of the World Team Championships,” said Han. “This medal is very special and unique.”

There is little time to celebrate, however, with the Final 4 arriving quick after the World Championships.

“ I needed to rest for one or two days and recharge my body. Then I immediately switched into preparation mode for the club competition,” explained HAN.

Tarnobrzeg once again bring together one of the most experienced and balanced squads in Europe. Alongside HAN are world No. 12 Satsuki ODO, European No. 10 Fu YU and No. 29 YANG Xiaoxin, while the team is further strengthened by HE Zhuojia, Ng Wing LAM, Magdalena SIKORSKA and Kinga STEFANSKA.

For HAN, the secret behind Tarnobrzeg’s consistency is simple.

“Our team is very united, and we all truly love table tennis,” she said.

The experienced defender also believes the diversity of playing styles inside the squad gives Tarnobrzeg a major tactical advantage.

“The strength of our team is that we have many different playing styles, which allows us to use different tactics against different opponents.”

Despite the club’s impressive history, HAN insists every season begins from zero.

“Every season is a new beginning for us, and we approach every competition in the best possible condition,” she explained.

The German international also welcomed the introduction of the new Final 4 format.

“I believe the new league format will attract even more table tennis fans,” said HAN, who also hopes the home atmosphere in Tarnobrzeg can become an important factor during the decisive weekend. “Of course, I hope that more supporters will come and cheer for us.”

And after years of success together, her connection with the club remains deeply personal.

“Winning any title for my club would mean a lot to me, because the club feels like a big family.”

Few clubs arrive at the HYLO ETTU Champions League Women Final 4 with a legacy as rich and consistent as ttc berlin eastside. For more than a decade, the German powerhouse has been one of the defining forces in European women’s club table tennis, combining winning tradition, squad depth and remarkable continuity at the highest level.

Seven Champions League titles – most recently in 2025, adding to triumphs in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2021 – underline Berlin’s status among Europe’s elite. Their domestic dominance has been equally impressive, with twelve German championship titles and fourteen German Cup victories, including another national cup success in 2026. Added to that are three ETTU Cup titles, confirming the club’s long-standing European pedigree.

This year, Berlin once again arrive at the decisive stage after a campaign defined by control, resilience and depth. They opened their Champions League journey with a convincing 3-0 victory over Saint-Denis TT 93 before following it with a solid 3-1 win against Linz AG Froschberg.

As the group stage progressed, Berlin showed composure in pressure moments as well, edging Saint-Denis 3-2 in a tense return encounter. Their only setback came away against Linz, but by then they had already established themselves as one of the strongest teams in the competition.

In the quarter-finals, the German side produced two highly convincing performances against PGE Fibrain AZS Politechnika Rzeszów. After securing a strong 3-1 away victory in Poland, Berlin delivered one of their best displays of the season in front of a nearly sold-out home crowd to complete qualification with a dominant 3-0 success.

The return match in Berlin highlighted the strength of the reigning champions, that officially booked Berlin’s place in the Final 4.

Now the defending champions face perhaps the toughest possible challenge. In the semi-finals, Berlin will meet hosts and top seeds KTS Enea Siarkopol Tarnobrzeg in what promises to be one of the standout clashes of the Final 4 weekend.

Playing in Tarnobrzeg against a side led by Ying HAN, HE Zhuojia, FU Yu and YANG Xiaoxin means Berlin will enter what many describe as “the lion’s den.” Yet few teams in Europe are more accustomed to decisive moments than the German champions.

With experience, winning mentality and remarkable squad depth, Berlin once again arrive at the Final 4 believing they can add another major European title to their extraordinary collection.

For the first time in history, the ETTU Champions League Women season will end with a Final 4 and Tarnobrzeg is ready to welcome four clubs dreaming of the biggest trophy in European club table tennis.

Hosts and top seeds KTS Enea Siarkopol Tarnobrzeg arrive once again among the favourites after another dominant European campaign. Four-time Champions League winners and leaders of Polish women’s table tennis for decades, Tarnobrzeg bring experience, depth and one of the strongest squads in Europe.

At the centre stands Ying HAN, fresh from winning bronze with Germany at the ITTF World Team Championships Finals in London.

“Our team is very united, and we all truly love table tennis,” said HAN, who also hopes the home atmosphere can become an important advantage for the Polish club.

Waiting for them in the semi-final will be reigning champions ttc berlin eastside, one of the most successful clubs in European women’s table tennis history.

Seven Champions League titles, years of consistency and enormous squad depth once again make ttc berlin eastside one of the main contenders for the trophy. Berlin’s club arrive in Tarnobrzeg knowing exactly how to handle the biggest occasions.

The second semi-final will feature two clubs chasing history in different ways.

UCAM Cartagena TM reached the Champions League Women Final 4 for the first time after one of the most dramatic campaigns of the season, including an incredible comeback and golden match victory in the quarter-finals against Saint-Quentin TT.

Led by experienced Spanish international Maria XIAO, Cartagena arrive full of belief.

“The quarter-final was really insane,” admitted XIAO. “It was almost impossible for us, but somehow we managed to qualify. I think our team spirit helped us a lot.”

Standing on the other side will be Metz TT, a club that has spent the last few years knocking on the door of European glory.

Finalists in both 2023 and 2025, Metz now arrive believing this could finally be their moment. Players such as Adina DIACONU, Charlotte LUTZ and Hana GODA give the French side one of the most balanced teams in the competition.

With reigning champions, experienced winners, rising challengers and packed stands expected in Tarnobrzeg, the first-ever ETTU Champions League Women Final 4 promises a spectacular finish to the European club season.

Linz AG Froschberg are the new ETTU Europe Cup Women champions after completing a dramatic comeback against ASD Quattro Mori Cagliari in front of their home crowd in Linz.

After suffering a 1-3 defeat in the opening leg in Italy, the Austrian side produced a flawless response on home soil, winning 3-0 to force the golden match and eventually lifting the trophy after a thrilling finale that went the full distance.

The trophy was presented to the winning team by ETTU Vice President Didier LEROY.

From the very beginning, Linz AG Froschberg showed determination to overturn the deficit. Suthasini SAWETTABUT opened the evening with a strong 3-1 victory over Hengyu MA, controlling the crucial moments of the fourth game to give the Austrian club the perfect start.

Ivana MALOBABIC then increased the pressure on the Italian side by defeating Tania PLAIAN in straight games. Although every game was closely contested, MALOBABIC remained focused in key rallies and pushed Linz one step closer to the comeback.

In the third match, Britt EERLAND and Miriam CARNOVALE produced a dramatic five-game battle. EERLAND recovered after losing the opening game, dominated the middle part of the match, and despite CARNOVALE forcing a decider, the Dutch player held her nerve to secure the decisive victory and send the final into the golden match.

The tension inside the hall continued to rise as the trophy had to be decided in the golden match.

SAWETTABUT edged Miriam CARNOVALE 11-9 in the opening duel before Tania PLAIAN responded immediately for ASD Quattro Mori Cagliari with an emphatic 11-1 victory against Ivana MALOBABIC.

With everything resting on the final encounter, Britt EERLAND once again stepped to the table and defeated Hengyu MA 11-8 to secure the trophy for Linz AG Froschberg and complete remarkable comeback.

The Austrian club had previously won the Champions League Women title on two occasions, in 2009 and 2013, but until now had never managed to capture the ETTU Europe Cup Women crown. Their dramatic victory in Linz therefore completed another important chapter in the club’s European legacy.

Britt EERLAND admitted that Linz AG Froschberg entered the second leg determined to overturn the narrow defeat from Sardinia and believed from the beginning that the comeback was possible.

“We were ready for our revenge. Last time it was very close, with three matches going to the deciding moments, so we knew we had a chance,” said EERLAND. “This week we prepared very well together, everybody stayed in Linz, and you could really see that in the match. Everybody had their game face on and wanted to put pressure on the opponents.”

Speaking about the decisive Golden Match, EERLAND explained that taking initiative under pressure proved crucial.

“With the Golden Match, the pressure is there for everybody. I felt that the player willing to take risks would have the advantage. I wanted to open the rallies quickly with my long serves and control the game as much as possible. I think I played smarter in the Golden Match,” she said.

EERLAND also praised the contribution of her teammates throughout the evening.

“I think everybody fought very well. Ivana is a player who normally needs one set to warm up, so the Golden Match format can be difficult for a defender, but in the regular match she was extremely strong with her 3-0 win. As a team we recovered very well from the first leg and finished with the title.”

The Dutch international also underlined the importance of completing the triple this season.

“Now we have won everything – the Cup, the league title and the Europe Cup. That feels very special. I personally had never won the Europe Cup before, so I’m very happy we achieved it. I think we are also the first Austrian club to win this title, which makes it even more special.”

Club president Günther RENNER immediately joined the celebrations after the historic success, while manager Robert RENNER praised the team’s fighting spirit and emotional achievement.

“Unbelievable how exciting can table tennis be? The team gave everything and deserved everything. After 2013, another European title comes to Linz. We owed this to my father Günther RENNER,” said Robert RENNER.

The evening also carried emotional significance for the club as Suthasini SAWETTABUT, who announced her retirement, and coach Josef PLACHY received a memorable farewell in front of the home crowd.

Real Club Cajasur Priego TM secured the first European trophy in the club’s history after defeating SF SKK El Nino Praha in a dramatic ETTU Europe Cup Men final that delivered two thrilling encounters decided only after the full five matches.

The trophy to the winning team was presented by ETTU Vice President Jaroslaw KOLODZIEJCZYK.

After taking a narrow 3-2 victory in the opening leg in Spain, the Priego side travelled to Prague knowing that another difficult battle awaited them. Just like in the first encounter, the second leg again went the distance, but the Spanish club once more found the decisive points when it mattered most.

One of the heroes of the final was Hampus SODERLUND, who preserved his unbeaten record across both matches and delivered two crucial victories in each encounter.

Priego opened the second leg perfectly as SODERLUND defeated David REITSPIES in straight games. Robert GARDOS then increased the visitors’ advantage with a strong victory over Tomas KONECNY, placing the Spanish side in a commanding position.

SF SKK El Nino Praha responded through Yevhen PRYSHCHEPA, who overcame Carlos MACHADO to keep the Czech club alive. The momentum continued to swing after David REITSPIES produced an impressive straight-games victory against Robert GARDOS to level the match and force a dramatic final encounter.

Everything rested on the duel between Tomas KONECNY and the unbeaten Hampus SODERLUND. The experienced Czech player started strongly and moved within one game of victory after taking the first two games. However, SODERLUND produced another remarkable comeback, fighting back to win the next three games and secure the title for Real Club Cajasur Priego TM.

The Spanish side therefore completed a memorable European campaign and added the ETTU Europe Cup Men trophy to the club’s history for the very first time.

Hampus SODERLUND admitted that immediately after the final victory he was still struggling to process the emotions following the historic success for Real Club Cajasur Priego TM.

“At the moment I honestly don’t even know exactly what I feel. Maybe a little bit empty because it has been such a long journey for all of us,” said SODERLUND. “We started already in Novi Sad at the end of August in Champions League Stage 1and since then it has been a whole season full of difficult matches where somehow we always managed to survive.”

The Swedish player highlighted the significance of securing the first European trophy in the history of the Spanish club.

“I’m just happy that together we managed to make this title possible for the first time in the history of Priego de Córdoba. It is truly a historic night for the club.”

SODERLUND also praised the entire structure around the team throughout the season.

“The club management did an amazing job, the coaches worked incredibly well on the bench and of course the players also gave everything. I’m simply very proud of this team.”

Reflecting on the final itself, SODERLUND underlined how difficult the challenge in Prague proved to be.

“We knew it would be very hard. Winning 3-2 at home was great, especially with such an amazing crowd behind us, but that result gave us no real advantage going into Prague. We knew we had to start again and beat them one more time in their own hall and we managed to do it.”

He also pointed out that the road to the trophy had already included several dramatic moments earlier in the competition.

“In the quarterfinals against HB Ostrov we won through the Golden Match and Diogo CARVALHO played unbelievably. In the earlier stages we also had problems against Marcozzi from Italy, then suddenly Carlos MACHADO started winning incredible realies. It was really a complete team effort all season. Whenever one player struggled a bit, another one stepped up. That’s why this journey was so special.”

Robert GARDOS also highlighted the difficulty of the final and praised the team’s preparation for the decisive encounter.

“We suspected that the opponent would make some changes to the lineup. But they have three quality players and it was difficult for us again,” said GARDOS. “I did not play well in the opening match and I wanted to help the team more in the second leg. I prepared very well and I definitely gave a better performance.”

The experienced Austrian praised the team’s excellent start in the second leg, particularly the contribution of the unbeaten Hampus SODERLUND.

“We started amazingly. Hampus was once again in great shape and I managed to play much better than in the first match. After going 2-0 up, I already felt we had two very good chances to win the title.”

Despite seeing the Czech side fight back, GARDOS said the team never stopped believing.

“Carlos fought hard, but he lost against PRYSHCHEPA. Then I also lost because the Czech player simply played better than me. But even when Hampus was trailing, we still believed he could turn the match around. He had his chances, stayed mentally strong, and finally managed to change the direction of the match and win.”

The experienced Austrian also admitted that the team’s previous success in a Golden Match earlier this season may have helped mentally, even though Priego eventually avoided another decider.

“This year we already won a Golden Match in the Czech Republic against HB Ostrov, so maybe that gave us some psychological advantage. But it is good that it did not happen this time because Golden Matches are very unpredictable.”

The first-ever ETTU Champions League Women Final 4 began today in the Polish city of Tarnobrzeg, where four of Europe’s top clubs arrived with hopes of lifting the most prestigious trophy in European women’s club table tennis. In the opening semi-final, France’s Metz TT overcame Spain’s UCAM Cartagena T.M. after a tense and emotional battle to secure their place in tomorrow’s final, scheduled for 15:00 CET. Later today, hosts KTS Enea Siarkopol Tarnobrzeg will face Germany’s ttc berlin eastside for the second ticket to the title match.

Egypt’s Hana GODA, currently ranked No. 20 in the ITTF World Rankings, opened the match for Metz TT against Chilean international Daniela ORTEGA, ranked No. 109 in the world.

Both players started with strong service games, with GODA looking aggressive from the first rallies, while ORTEGA tried to disrupt the rhythm by constantly changing the pace and varying the spin. Despite the resistance from the South American champion, GODA maintained a narrow advantage throughout the opening game to take the lead.

ORTEGA struggled on receive in the second game, while GODA continued to apply pressure with her quick attacking play and solid placement.

The Cartagena player showed signs of a comeback at the start of the third game, taking her first lead of the match at 3-2. However, GODA immediately responded, refusing to allow the momentum to shift. As the Egyptian accelerated the tempo even further and denied ORTEGA any opportunity to slow the rallies down, UCAM Cartagena coach Jesús CANTERO called a timeout in an attempt to break the rhythm.

GODA, however, remained fully in control and closed the match in straight games.

“She was playing really well, so I had to put a lot of power into my shots and keep the ball on the table. I’m happy I could bring this point to the team,” said GODA.

The clash between Europe No. 8 Charlotte LUTZ and Europe No. 6 Maria XIAO leveled the match. XIAO justified her higher ranking by taking control early in the encounter. The players stayed close until the middle of the opening game, when the Spaniard began to pull away with precise placement and well-timed attacks down the line.

LUTZ managed to keep pace at 4-4 in the second game, but XIAO once again created separation by constantly pushing the French player half a step behind and disrupting her rhythm.

“I played without any pressure because I knew we were the underdogs here. Without QI Fei, it is very difficult to win this match, so I had nothing to lose. The last time I played against LUTZ, she beat me 3-0 and I had no chance, so today I was just thinking point by point and game by game. I think that was the key. The big difference this time was that she did not receive my serve very well, and that gave me the opportunity to be aggressive before her. She has a very attacking game, so if I could be aggressive first, it gave me the chance to control the point,” explained XIAO.

Currently ranked No. 42 in Europe, Adina DIACONU faced Europe No. 43 Tin Tin HO in another tense clash of the semi-final. The Romanian international applied strong pressure from the start, using heavy spin and aggressive openings to force HO into errors.

However, Tin Tin stayed calm and managed to shift the momentum in the second game. After a tense battle at 8-8, HO accelerated at the right moment to earn two game points at 10-8 and converted the second to level the match.

The third game produced another neck-and-neck battle. Better receive and early initiative helped HO move in front, but DIACONU responded strongly in the fourth game, quickly building a 6-2 advantage. Although HO reduced the gap to 6-4, the Romanian player remained composed, extended the lead to 8-4 and forced the match into a decisive fifth game.

In the decider, DIACONU completely took control, dominating the rallies and sealing an important victory for Metz TT.

“It was a tough match, but I think I played very well in the first two games. I was leading in both of them, in the first set maybe 8-2, but she fought for every point and kept playing better and better. The same happened in the second game. I was in front again, but then I lost it, so I started to feel a little nervous.I also had some problems with my serve, many balls were going out and I really do not know why. But in the end, I am very happy that I managed to control my emotions and turn them to work for me.I tried to stay very calm because she is a very aggressive player. I just needed to stay in the rally and in the game, and that was the key for me today,” said DIACONU. “Today is my father’s birthday. I was sad that I could not celebrate it together with my family, but now I am so happy we won today.”

GODA left nothing to chance in her second appearance at the table. The Egyptian star immediately put the match under control despite Maria XIAO’s experience and tactical variations. Hana dictated the tempo from the opening rallies and never allowed the Spaniard enough time to settle into rhythm.

“My serve worked very well today, and that was the most important thing,” said GODA.
